![]() ![]() When all the Star Coins are collected in a world, whenever Mario spends his Star Coins a banner will appear on the level select screen of that world to indicate this. Star Coins are used to clear out Star Coin Signs to unlock alternate paths, secret levels, Toad Houses (which all cost 5 Star Coins each), and alternate wallpapers upon the game's completion (which cost 20 Star Coins each). ![]() A Star Coin can be obtained by either making contact with it or by tossing an object at it such as a Shell.Ĭollecting Star Coins is required to fully complete the game 100%. Star Coins are often found in secret areas or in various placements requiring the use of all the plumbers moves and abilities to obtain them. When revisiting a level after collecting a Star Coin, a blue transparent Star Coin will be in its place (similar to already-collected Power Stars in the 3D Mario games). When a Star Coin is collected, the player earns 1,000 points, and the Star Coin is displayed on the touch screen to indicate that it has been collected. In this game, three Star Coins can be found in each of the game's levels (with the exception of Toad Houses and Warp Cannons). Beating the level this way allows access to Star World 4, and to the Star Road that warps the player to just outside of the Forest of Illusion (though the player will not be able to go anywhere if they have not yet unlocked the secret exit in Forest of Illusion 4 and subsequently cleared Forest Secret Area and Forest Fortress). After the Key has been obtained, the player should take it to the right side of the gap and put it in the Keyhole. To get the Key, the player should hit the ? Block. The player should use the cloud to float up through the opening in the Blocks in the middle, and then float to the left side. To find the Key and Keyhole, the player has to hit the Lakitu with a Grab Block (or a fireball if Fire Mario), then steal his Cloud. The Giant Gate is directly to the player's right at the start of the level. ![]()
